About this tool
This calculator estimates a Korean household electricity bill under the residential low-voltage plan of KEPCO.
Korea uses a progressive tier system: the more kWh you use in a month, the higher the price per kWh.
Outside summer, the tiers are up to 200 kWh at 120.0 won, 201 to 400 kWh at 214.6 won, and above 400 kWh at 307.3 won.
In July and August the tier limits widen to 300 and 450 kWh, so air conditioning costs less than it would otherwise.
The bill adds a base charge that depends on your total tier, a climate and environment charge, a fuel cost adjustment that changes every quarter, 10% VAT and a 2.7% power industry fund.
In July-August and December-February, usage above 1,000 kWh falls under a separate super-user rate, shown here for reference. This is an estimate.
Your actual bill may differ because of rounding, or because KEPCO splits charges by day when your meter-reading period spans summer and non-summer months.
Welfare discounts, large-family discounts and apartment-wide single contracts are not included, and high-voltage rates differ, so check KEPCO (cyber.kepco.co.kr) for the final amount.
How to use
- Enter the kWh shown on your bill (or your estimate) and pick the billing month.
- Update the fuel cost adjustment if your bill shows a different amount than the default.
- Read the tier breakdown, the estimated total and the warning for the next tier, then compare the 200 to 500 kWh table.
