About this tool
This simple calculator estimates the comprehensive income tax for a freelancer in Korea whose payments had 3.3% withheld.
Income is revenue minus expenses, where expenses are either the simple expense rate you enter or your actual expenses.
From the income amount it subtracts 1.5 million KRW for yourself and each dependent and any national pension you paid, applies the 2026 progressive rates from 6% to 45%, and subtracts the 70,000 KRW standard tax credit for people with no salary income.
Local income tax is 10% of the income tax. The 3% income tax and 0.3% local tax already withheld are then compared, so you see a refund or an additional payment.
For example, with revenue of 20,000,000 KRW and an expense rate of 60%, income is 8,000,000, the tax base is 6,500,000, the tax is 390,000 less 70,000, which is 320,000, and withheld tax is 600,000, so the refund is about 308,000 KRW including local tax.
The expense rate has no default because it depends on your business code, so look it up on Hometax under standard and simple expense rate lookup.
Complex deductions such as insurance premiums, small-business mutual aid, other income and reductions are left out.
This is an estimate for reference only, not provided or verified by the National Tax Service, and it does not replace advice from a tax professional, so file through Hometax in May.
