About this tool
This mental math game is a free online arithmetic drill that gives you 60 seconds to solve as many addition, subtraction and multiplication problems as you can.
Pick a level, press start, type each answer in the box and press Enter. Every correct answer adds one point, and a new problem appears at once, so there is no waiting. How does each level work?
Easy uses numbers up to 20 for adding and subtracting. Normal mixes two digit addition and subtraction with the times tables from 2 to 9.
Hard uses three digit addition and subtraction, times tables up to 12 and two digit numbers multiplied by a single digit. Subtraction never goes below zero, so you never need negative numbers. What is a good score?
There is no official standard, so use your own best as the benchmark; many people find that about 20 correct answers on Normal is a comfortable first target. How can I get faster?
Practice small tricks instead of brute force: add the tens first and then the ones, round to the nearest ten and adjust, and learn the nine times table with the finger trick or by noticing that the digits add up to nine.
Do not stop for a hard problem, because a missed answer costs only the seconds you spent. Which input works best? On a phone the number pad opens automatically, and on a computer you can keep both hands on the keyboard.
Where is my record kept? Your best score for each level is saved only in this browser on this device, and nothing is sent anywhere.
This game is for practice and fun, not a test of ability, and it is no substitute for lessons. Take breaks between rounds. You may also like the number guessing game or the 2048 game.
