About this tool

This Korean slang dictionary explains 268 popular MZ and Gen Z slang words (the words used by Korean Millennials and Gen Z), sorted by year in plain language with an example sentence for each, so you can understand chats, social media and K-content.

The year-by-year slang lists run from 2020 to 2026, with a 2010s set and an evergreen set for words people have used for a long time.

Tap a year chip to see what was popular then: 2022 brought jung-kkeok-ma (중꺾마), 2024 brought chu-gu-mi (추구미) and neu-jot (느좋), and 2025 brought du-jjon-kku (두쫀쿠) and text-hip (텍스트힙).

The Gen Z words also cover English slang that Korean teens use, such as rizz, no cap, aura and delulu. Years are approximate, since a word can spread slowly. Korean slang is mostly made in two ways.

One is abbreviation: 'lunch menu recommendation' becomes jeom-me-chu (점메추) and 'workout done today' becomes o-un-wan (오운완).

The other is blending: king (킹) plus yeol-batda becomes king-batda (킹받다), 'very annoyed', and God plus life becomes gat-saeng (갓생), 'a diligent life'. Many words also borrow English directly.

Each card gives the meaning, where the word comes from, and a sentence you can copy. Type in the search box to filter instantly; for Korean words you can type just the initial consonants, such as ㅋㅂㄷ.

Category chips narrow the list, the random button teaches one word a day, and the copy button lets you send a word card to a friend. ⓘ Meaning and usage can differ by time, group and situation, and trends change quickly.

These notes describe general usage, so please use words considerately and not to tease or upset others. A few everyday words that are common today are included too.
