About this tool

In Korea, an employee who works at least 15 hours a week and attends all scheduled days earns a paid weekly rest day, and the pay for it is called the weekly holiday allowance (juhyu sudang). The formula used here is: weekly hours (capped at 40) divided by 40, times 8 hours, times the hourly wage. For example, at 10,000 won an hour and 40 hours a week, the allowance is 8 hours times 10,000 won, which is 80,000 won a week. Multiplying by 4.345 weeks per month gives about 347,600 won a month. At 20 hours a week it is 20 divided by 40, times 8, times 10,000, which is 40,000 won. Under 15 hours a week no allowance is owed. The default hourly wage is the statutory minimum wage and you can type your own. Actual entitlement also depends on attendance, the contract and your workplace, so confirm with your employer or the Ministry of Employment and Labor. The results are estimates for reference and do not replace advice from a labor or tax professional.

How to use

  1. Enter your hourly wage (the minimum wage is filled in).
  2. Enter your scheduled hours per week.
  3. See the weekly allowance and the monthly equivalent (x 4.345 weeks).
  4. If you work under 15 hours a week, the allowance is 0 won.
