About this tool

A parental leave pay calculator (육아휴직 급여 calculator) estimates the employment insurance benefit paid by the Ministry of Employment and Labor while you take childcare leave in Korea.

This tool uses the general standard in force in 2025 for reference: for the first 3 months the benefit is 100% of your monthly ordinary wage with a cap of 2,500,000 won, for months 4 to 6 it is 100% with a cap of 2,000,000 won, and from month 7 it is 80% with a cap of 1,600,000 won; the lowest benefit is 700,000 won, and if your wage is below that you receive your wage.

Low-wage or part-time workers should check the details on Employment24.

A special rule that raises the caps for the first months when both parents take leave in turn also exists and is not included, and rules can change, so confirm on the Employment Insurance site (Employment24, 고용24) before you plan.

How much is the benefit on a 3,500,000 won wage?

Months 1-3 are capped at 2,500,000 won, months 4-6 at 2,000,000 won and months 7-12 at 80% of the wage, which is 2,800,000 won but capped to 1,600,000 won, so the 12-month total is 3 x 2,500,000 + 3 x 2,000,000 + 6 x 1,600,000 = 23,100,000 won.

What about a 2,000,000 won wage? Months 1-6 are 2,000,000 won each and months 7-12 are 1,600,000 won each, a total of 21,600,000 won. Who is eligible?

In general an insured employee who has paid employment insurance for at least 180 days before the leave and who cares for a child aged 8 or under or in the second grade of elementary school or below; check details with the employment center.

Does the benefit include taxes? The figures are before deductions and the pay your employer gives during leave is a separate matter.

The result is a reference estimate and does not replace advice from a labor professional.
