About this tool
This image cropper online cuts a photo down to the part you want, in a ratio you choose.
Pick a picture, choose 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 3:4 or Free, move the box over the part you want to keep, press Crop and download a PNG or JPG. Other names for it are photo cropper, picture trimmer and crop image to ratio.
Everything runs in your browser, so the file is never uploaded to any server and your original is not changed. Which ratio should I pick? Use 1:1 for a square profile picture or a feed post.
Use 4:3 for classic camera photos and slides, and 16:9 for wide video thumbnails and presentation covers. Use 3:4 for tall portrait shots and phone wallpapers.
Choose Free when a form or a friend asks for a custom shape; then the width and height can be set on their own. How do I move and resize the box? On a phone, touch the box and drag it.
Drag the small blue square in the lower right corner to make the box bigger or smaller. If dragging feels fiddly, the sliders below the picture set the size and the position more precisely.
The size line under the picture shows the exact pixels you will get. For example, a 4000 x 3000 photo cropped at 1:1 can give up to 3000 x 3000 pixels. Does cropping make my photo blurry? No.
Cropping keeps the original pixels of the area you picked and does not scale them, so the quality stays the same. The picture only gets smaller in size because part of it is removed.
If you need to change the pixel size afterward, use the Image Resizer. For official ID photos with guide lines, try the ID & Passport Photo Cropper. A few tips.
Pick PNG for screenshots with text and JPG when you want a smaller file for photos. Saving creates a brand new picture, so hidden camera data such as GPS location is removed, which is handy before you share a photo.
Photos over 50 MB or 40 megapixels are skipped because a phone browser could run out of memory. If the crop looks off, press a ratio button again to reset the box to the middle, or choose another picture.
