About this tool

This image resizer changes the width and height of a photo in pixels or by percent, which is the usual way to make a picture smaller for a profile, a form or a website.

Pick an image, type a new width or choose a percent, press Resize and download the result. Everything runs in your browser with no account. How do I resize without stretching? Keep the aspect ratio box ticked.

When you change the width, the height follows automatically. For example, a 4000 x 3000 photo set to 1000 wide becomes 1000 x 750.

Untick the box only when you really want a different shape, because the picture will look squeezed or stretched. Pixels or percent? Use pixels when a form asks for an exact size such as 800 pixels wide.

Use percent for a quick change: 50% halves both sides and leaves about a quarter of the pixels, so the file is usually much smaller too.

Can I make a small picture bigger? You can, up to 8000 pixels, but no new detail is created, so the picture looks soft. Shrinking is always safer than enlarging.

Your original file is not touched; you download a new one. Saving removes hidden camera data such as GPS location. Photos over 50 MB or 25 megapixels are skipped.

If you need a video thumbnail at exactly 1280 x 720, the YouTube Thumbnail Resizer handles cropping and padding for you. To reduce the file size further after resizing, use the Image Compressor.

Your image never leaves your device. All work happens in your browser.
