About this tool

A Korean manuscript paper counter (원고지 계산기) converts the text you paste into the number of manuscript pages it would fill.

Standard 200-cell paper has 20 cells per row and 10 rows per page.

This tool uses simplified rules: every character, including spaces and punctuation, takes one cell; a new paragraph starts with one blank cell; an empty line takes a whole row; and you can choose to put two digits or Latin letters in one cell.

For example, a single paragraph of 150 characters needs 151 cells, which is 8 rows (20 cells each) and 0.8 page, so it rounds up to 1 page. Three such paragraphs need 24 rows, which is 2.4 pages and rounds up to 3.

How many pages is 1,000 characters? About 5 pages when you simply divide by 200, but paragraph indents and line ends make the real count a little higher. Is the rule exactly the same everywhere? No.

Contests, schools and publishers differ on how they treat punctuation at line ends, quotation marks and numbers, so check your notice and change the cells per row or rows per page if the paper is different (for example 20 x 20 = 400 cells).

If you only need characters or bytes for a form, use the resume character counter. For speech length, see the reading time calculator. Your text is processed only in your browser and never sent anywhere.

How to use

  1. Paste or type your text in the box.
  2. Check cells per row and rows per page (default 20 x 10) and choose how to count digits and letters.
  3. Read the page count, decimal pages, rows and characters.
  4. Copy the result for your notes.
