About this tool
This free video frame grabber lets you pick one exact moment from a video file and save it as an image.
It is handy for making a thumbnail from your own footage, grabbing a clean still for a cover picture, or keeping a memorable scene.
Choose a file from your device, then play, pause, drag the slider or step one frame at a time to find the best shot. The frame buttons move about 1/30 of a second, which is one frame for common 30 fps video.
Press Save as PNG to keep the frame at the video's original size with no quality loss, or Save as 1280×720 JPG to get a ready-made 16:9 thumbnail size.
If your video is not 16:9, the 1280×720 version fills the frame and trims the edges.
Every saved frame is kept in a list of up to 12 small previews, so you can compare several candidates and download only the ones you like. Remove a frame to make room for another.
Because the images are plain files, you can open them in any editor to add text or adjust colors afterwards.
Your video is never uploaded. The file is opened directly by your browser with a temporary local link, so there is no waiting for an upload, no size limit from a server and no copy anywhere else.
Browsers can only open the formats they support. MP4 (H.264) and WebM work almost everywhere.
Some files, such as certain HEVC/H.265 .mov videos, may not open in every browser; if so, try Safari or a recent Chrome or Edge, or convert the video to MP4 first.
Please save frames only from videos you made or have the right to use, and respect other people's copyright and privacy. Very long or high-resolution videos can be slow on older phones.
This tool is independent and not connected to any video platform.
