About this tool
Watching at a faster playback speed is one of the easiest ways to get through lectures, tutorials and long interviews, but it is hard to judge how much time you really save.
This calculator does the math for you. Enter the length of a video in hours, minutes and seconds, choose how many videos you plan to watch, and pick a speed from 1x to 3x.
It shows the real time needed, the time saved and a comparison table for 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, 2x, 2.5x and 3x, so you can see that a one hour video takes 40 minutes at 1.5x and 30 minutes at 2x.
The Playlist total tab is for a whole course or watch list.
Paste one video length per line in the form 1:23:45, 12:34 or 45 (a bare number means seconds), and the tool adds everything up and shows how long the whole list takes at each speed.
Lines it cannot read are skipped and listed so you can fix them. This is handy for planning a week of study, a long series or a stack of saved videos before an exam. A few tips: faster is not always better.
Dense material such as math, new vocabulary or code usually needs a slower pace, while familiar topics, news and interviews often work well at 1.5x to 2x. Many people pick 1.25x or 1.5x first and raise it slowly.
Remember to add time for pausing, taking notes and rewatching, because the result is only the raw playing time. Ads, intros that you skip and speeds your player does not offer are not counted.
The numbers are simple division of the total length by the speed, rounded to the second.
Everything runs in your browser; the lengths you type are not saved or sent anywhere, and the page never connects to any video site. YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC.
