About this tool
A body fat calculator estimates what share of your weight is fat, and this one uses the US Navy circumference method, so you only need a tape measure.
In centimetres, men use 495 / (1.0324 - 0.19077 x log10(waist - neck) + 0.15456 x log10(height)) - 450, and women use 495 / (1.29579 - 0.35004 x log10(waist + hip - neck) + 0.221 x log10(height)) - 450.
For example, a man 175 cm tall with a 38 cm neck and an 85 cm waist comes out near 17 percent; with 70 kg that is about 12 kg of fat and 58 kg of lean mass. How do I measure?
Measure the neck below the larynx, the waist at the navel for men and the narrowest point for women, and the hips at the widest point, standing relaxed. How accurate is a waist body fat calculation?
Men can leave the hip box as it is, since it is ignored. Values are for general reference only, so ask a doctor or trainer about health goals.
To compare with weight for height, try the BMI calculator, and for a daily food target the daily calorie calculator. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is saved or sent.
This formula is meant for adults and may not suit growing teens or pregnant women. Talk to a doctor about weight concerns.
ⓘ It is only an estimate and can miss by several percentage points compared with scans or skinfold tests, and the result is not a diagnosis.
