About this tool
An ideal weight calculator (also called a standard or reference weight calculator) turns your height into a weight figure using a simple formula.
This page shows two commonly cited rules side by side. The Broca-modified formula is (height in cm - 100) x 0.9 for men and x 0.85 for women.
The BMI 22 method multiplies 22 by your height in meters squared, so it does not depend on sex. For example, a woman who is 165 cm gets (165 - 100) x 0.85 = 55.3 kg from Broca and 22 x 1.65 x 1.65 = 59.9 kg from BMI 22.
A man who is 170 cm gets 63.0 kg and 63.6 kg. What is an ideal weight? There is no single exact number.
These formulas are old rules of thumb that are widely known, and they ignore muscle, bone structure, age and health, so the two answers can differ by several kilograms. Is my standard weight the weight I should aim for?
Not necessarily; treat it as one reference point and compare it with the healthy range on the bmi-calculator page. It is not meant for children, teenagers or pregnancy.
This tool is for reference only and does not replace a doctor or dietitian. Nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere.
