About this tool
Korean Phrase of the Day teaches one practical Korean expression every day, shown in Hangul with an easy romanization, an English meaning and a note about when to use it.
If you are searching for a Korean phrase of the day, daily Korean words, basic Korean for travel or Korean for beginners, this page gives you one small step at a time.
Phrases such as 안녕하세요 (annyeonghaseyo), 감사합니다 (gamsahamnida) or 잘 먹겠습니다 (jal meokgetseumnida) are the ones you really hear on the street, in cafes and in dramas. How does it work?
The page picks a phrase from a pool of 197 expressions using your device's local date. The order is shuffled in a fixed way, so every phrase appears before any repeats.
Tap Listen to hear it with the Korean voice built into your own phone or computer, which depends on your device, so some devices may not offer it.
Copy the phrase into a chat, or save it with the star to build your own study list. Earlier days can be revisited with the arrows, but future days stay hidden.
How to read the romanization: it follows the common Revised Romanization style, but it is a simplified guide for beginners.
Real Korean sounds can differ, for example some consonants change when they sit next to other sounds. Listening to native speakers is always the best way to improve, and the written guide is a helper only.
Your saved list is kept only in this browser on your device, and no account is needed.
The small fire counter shows how many days in a row you visited from this device, which is a friendly reminder to learn a little every day.
On the Korean version of this page the same cards are framed as "a phrase to teach your foreign friends", with the Korean situation notes, which makes it a fun thing to share.
The phrases are polite, friendly and safe for everyone. This is a free learning aid for fun and practice, not a certified language course, and politeness levels can vary in real life. Q: Is it free? A: Yes, no signup.
Q: Do I need to know Hangul? A: No, romanization is included. Q: Will phrases repeat? A: Only after the whole pool has been shown.
