About this tool
This grade needed calculator (final exam score calculator, target score and remaining exam score) tells you what to score on the rest of a course to reach the final grade you want.
Enter each score you already have with its weight in percent, then your target and the full score of an exam.
The remaining weight is 100% minus the weights you entered, and the needed score = (target - points so far) / remaining weight.
For example, 85 at 30% and 90 at 20% give 25.5 + 18 = 43.5 points; for a target of 90 with 50% left you need (90 - 43.5) / 0.5 = 93. What score do I need on the final? Fill in the rows and read the highlighted number.
What if it is above 100? Then the target is out of reach and the box shows the best final score you can still get. What if it is already reached? The result says 0 and that you pass the target even with a zero.
Rounding, curves, minimum-score rules and extra credit differ by school, so check your syllabus or ask your teacher. Weights must not add up to more than 100%. Everything is calculated in your browser.
