About this tool

A steps to distance calculator (걸음 수 거리 계산기) turns a step count into kilometres, walking time and an estimated energy burn.

Distance = steps x stride length.

Stride is the length of one step, and many people walk roughly 0.4 times their height per step, so a 165 cm person might use about 66 to 70 cm; measure your own by walking 10 steps and dividing the distance by 10.

For example, 10,000 steps at a 70 cm stride is 7.0 km. Time = steps / cadence; at 100 steps a minute that is 100 minutes.

Calories are estimated as distance x body weight x a factor that you can change; with a factor of 0.5 kcal per kg per km, a 60 kg person walking 7.0 km burns about 210 kcal. How far is 10,000 steps?

It depends on stride, from about 6 km for a short stride to 8 km for a long one. Is the calorie number exact? No.

Pace, hills, shoes and body differ, so treat it as a rough guide, and for other activities see the exercise calorie calculator. The default values are only examples, not averages or recommendations.

All figures are calculated in your browser and nothing is saved or sent. If you want a daily energy target, try the daily calorie calculator.

How to use

  1. Enter the number of steps you walked.
  2. Enter your stride length in cm (about 0.4 x height, or measure 10 steps and divide by 10).
