About this tool

This calculator estimates the yearly car tax for a private passenger car in Korea (2026-10 basis).

The tax per cc is 80 KRW up to 1,000cc, 140 KRW up to 1,600cc and 200 KRW above 1,600cc, applied to the whole engine size.

From the 3rd year after registration the tax falls 5% a year, up to a maximum of 50%, and a 30% local education tax is added on top.

Paying the whole year in advance in January, March, June or September gives a 5% deduction on the days left in the year, about 4.6% in January and 1.3% in September.

Electric and hydrogen cars pay a flat 100,000 KRW a year plus the 30% education tax, and this tool does not apply the age reduction to them.

For example, a 2,000cc car in its 5th year pays 400,000 KRW, minus 15% for age, which is 340,000 KRW, plus 102,000 KRW of education tax, or 442,000 KRW a year. The tax is billed in June and December.

If you also buy a car, see the car acquisition tax calculator on this site. Commercial vehicles, vans and trucks use different rates and are not covered.
