About this tool

A number to Korean amount converter writes a won figure in words, the way receipts, contracts, loan papers and payment forms in Korea ask for it.

Type 1234500 and you get the document style 일금 일백이십삼만사천오백원정, the short form 123만 4,500원, a spoken reading, and the formal Hanja form with the anti-forgery characters such as 壹 and 貳.

Korean amounts are read in groups of four digits with the units 만, 억, 조 and 경, not in groups of three like the thousands and millions used in English, and that is where most mistakes happen.

The document style keeps the 일 in front of every unit, so 10,000 is 일금 일만원정 and 100,000,000 is 일금 일억원정, and it ends with 정 to close off the amount. Zero groups are skipped, so 100,010,001 becomes 일억일만일원.

Commas are added to the number automatically, and you can paste a number that already has commas. The tool handles amounts up to the 경 unit, which is 20 digits.

Always check the result yourself before you submit any document, because a single wrong character can change the amount. Your number is converted in your browser and is not sent or saved.

How to use

  1. Type or paste the amount in digits. Commas are fine.
  2. Read the document style at the top. Below it you can see the comma number, the short form, the spoken reading and the Hanja form.
  3. Tap Copy next to the form you need and check it against your document before you submit.
