About this tool
This wedding gift money guide (a 축의금 and 조의금 calculator for Korea) shows a common range of cash gifts for weddings and funerals, based on how you know the person, how close you are, whether you attend and whether you eat at the wedding.
How much should I give for a wedding? There is no single right answer, and this tool does not claim any average or statistic. It only turns a rough common practice into a range.
As an example, a normal friend who attends and eats is shown 50,000 to 100,000 KRW; with no meal the range drops by 50,000 KRW, to 30,000 to 50,000 KRW, and if you cannot attend it is about half of the amount you would give in person.
A very close relative lands at 200,000 to 300,000 KRW and a sibling at 300,000 KRW or more. How much for a funeral?
Funeral meals are normally served, so only the relationship, closeness and attendance matter, with 30,000 to 50,000 KRW for a coworker and more for close family.
The right amount also depends on the venue cost, your region, your family custom and, above all, your own budget. Pay what feels sincere and comfortable. For reference only. Nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere.
See the wedding-budget-calculator if you are planning your own wedding.
